Summer has come, bringing along a batch of blockbuster movies.

This season we’re thrilled to see the return of franchises, like George Millers Mad Max series and the Will Smith and Martin Lawrence starring Alien series. Even the Apes are making a big screen comeback. It’s shaping up to be quite the lineup.

It’s not familiar franchises gracing theaters this summer. Movies such as The Bikeriders featuring Jodie Comer, Austin Butler and Tom Hardy along with The Watchers by Ishana Night Shyamalan promise audiences captivating storylines to look forward to.

With a mix of movie genres intriguing characters and diverse settings in store for moviegoers this season there’s something for everyone. Make sure to catch this months releases, as well as some of the highly anticipated summer films.

‘The Fall Guy’

Cast: Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Winston Duke

Release Date: May 3

Fans can look forward to seeing Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt reunite on the silver screen for the time since their collaboration in Barbenheimer back, in 2023. In the film “The Fall Guy ” two renowned actors are demonstrating their prowess, in performing stunts. The storyline revolves around Colt Seavers, a stuntman portrayed by Gosling embarking on a thrilling quest to unravel the mystery of a Hollywood star (played by Aaron Taylor Johnson) and win back the affections of his beloved (Blunt).

This movie combines action and humor in a manner showcasing gripping sequences (even breaking a Guinness World Record for cannon rolls in a car) and memorable comedy. It serves as a take on a beloved 1980’s TV show but also pays homage to the stunt industry. During the SXSW premiere Gosling himself mentioned that the film serves as a push to urge the Academy to acknowledge stunt performers with an Oscar.

“Planet of the Apes Kingdom”

Set 300 years after the events of “War, for the Planet of the Apes ” director Wes Balls sequel portrays a apocalyptic world where humans are scarce and apes reign supreme. Though Caesar has passed away a new ape named Noa is poised to continue his legacy alongside his companion Mae.

For those who haven’t caught any of the Planet of the Apes films no need to fret. This new movie marks a start, for the series featuring faces, locations, storylines and hurdles that will captivate both newcomers and long time enthusiasts. Running at a duration of 145 minutes Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is set to be the film in the franchise far. Its gearing up to be quite thrilling.

IF blends live action with animation in style to movies like Space Jam or Who Framed Roger Rabbit.. Helmed by John Krasinski IF follows two individuals with the ability to perceive peoples Imaginary Friends as they embark on a journey to reunite them with their childhood companions.

Krasinski has traversed a distance from his role as Jim Halpert in The Office. Of sticking to playing relatable characters for over two decades he opted to chase his aspiration of becoming a filmmaker. At present he spearheads a horror film series and oversees production, on its chapter. George Miller is currently involved in the production of an animated feature film that diverges significantly from his projects.

A Mad Max Saga’ marks the installment in the expanding Mad Max franchise initiated by George Miller. Serving as a prequel to the 2015 hit ‘Fury Road’ this film delves into the origins of Imperator Furiosa, one of its characters.

‘The Watchers’

Night Shyamalans daughter, Ishana Night Shyamalan marks her entry into the film industry with a tale of a woman (portrayed by Dakota Fanning) trapped in a forest fighting off beings, alongside her fellow captives. This marks Will Smith’s next big movie and will begin his comeback to starring roles in films following The Slap controversy, at the 2022 Oscars. This film will be crucial, in gauging Smiths enduring popularity. If he continues to draw audiences to theaters.

‘The Bikeriders’

After facing delays due to the SAG Aftra strikes director Jeff Nichols highly anticipated period drama “The Bikeriders” is finally gearing up for its debut. Inspired by Danny Lyons photography book of the name the film is set in 1960s Midwestern America. Delves into the evolution of the Vandals biker gang through the eyes of key members. As the group transitions into a criminal organization its members grapple with tough choices about their lifestyles and loyalty to the club.

Jodie Comer will portray Kathy engaged in a relationship with Austin Butlers character Benny as they navigate love and life within a gang context. Tom Hardy will also feature in the film as the leader of the Vandals. With a cast and an intriguing plot-line, at hand one can’t. ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’

While previous films in the series were set in suburban settings that already evoked fear there’s an added factor in witnessing a deserted Manhattan transformed into a perilous battleground, for aggressive extraterrestrial beings.

‘Despicable Me 4’

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is bringing back its anticipated “Deadpool & Wolverine” movie to cinemas in 2024. Hugh Jackman is revisiting his role as Wolverine after retiring the character in 2017s “Logan.” Deadpool, renowned for its R rated content now falls under Marvels umbrella. With whispers of guest appearances and an engaging storyline fans are eagerly snapping up tickets, for this awaited cinematic experience.

The timing of the movies release couldn’t be better, for Marvel considering the superhero fatigue and box office struggles they are facing. Director Shawn Levy and the talented cast have a chance to make a difference. Only time will tell.

In “Cuckoo ” Gretchen finds herself stranded in the German Alps drawing parallels to horror movies like “The Shining” and contemporary thrillers like “The Lodge.”

You might know Hunter Schafer as Jules from HBOs Euphoria. Her portrayal of Tigris Snow in The Hunger Games; The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes was equally impressive. Her potential breakout performance, in Cuckoo could open doors to opportunities ahead.

The movie “Borderlands” directed by Eli Roth features a star studded cast including Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Edgar Ramírez Ariana Greenblatt and Florian Munteanu. Scheduled for release, on August 9th the film follows the characters Lilith and Roland on a mission to rescue a weapons manufacturers daughter, on the planet Pandora.

Movies based on video games are now viewed positively than before. The Super Mario Bros. Movie set a record in 2023 by being the video game adaptation to make, over $1 billion globally. Twisted Metal, on Peacock got renewed for a season because viewers loved its action sequences and humor. Borderlands featuring a cast is predicted to do well too.

‘Alien: Romulus’

This revival of this iconic IP is anticipated with excitement in 2024. The upcoming movie, set between the two Alien films is poised to be a part of the franchise. Is said to return to its original horror essence as seen in the trailers.

It’s really exciting to hear that Ridley Scott, who directed the 1979 film will play a role, as a lead producer in this project. While this doesn’t guarantee success it does promise that the story will remain faithful to it’s origins. With backing from Scott and James Cameron secured, along with an ensemble cast featuring rising stars, like Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced and David Jonsson there’s definitely a lot of anticipation building up for this upcoming summer blockbuster.
